We are moving to HK this spring and will have 4-6 weeks in a serviced apartment. I will be working in Central.
I would appreciate comments on real life experience living in either the Midlevels or South HK (particulaly Repulse and Stanley). We currently live in Manhattan, and while we like to metropolitan lifestyle, we think we would enjoy being near the beach with a view. Having visited once before, I understand the basics (i.e., nightlife in the Midlevels, more families in the South). Have any singles or couples without children lived in Repulse, Stanley or elsewhere in South HK?

Since no-one else has, here is my input. We were older and almost childless when there (ie only child we had didn't want to own us). But husband lived there for a while without us and from acquaintances we made? Pokfulam can be OK - really set up for people with children, though. But there are places you can rent there that are really good for entertainment, low rises with rooftops, and it is really not that far from Cental, has reasonable (not great) supermarkets etc. Just not that convenient to walk to restaurants, bars etc. Mid-levels will probably remind you a bit of any central big city and it is a place I really loved for a lot of reasons, but hated the mid-city pollution.
Repulse, Stanley etc are also not really convenient in terms of strolling out to bars, restaurants etc, unless you are able to pay top dollar and live nearby or you are prepared for everything that owning and using and parking a car entails. Public transport is OK, taxis mainly, but not as convenient as on the other side. That said, the resto's etc are generally great that side.
You can look at above Wan Chai - Tai Hang Road and thereabouts? Happy Valley, maybe?
Beaches are a thing to forget about. Unless you trek out on the eastern Mainland coast (even that with reservations), they are nice to look, nice to walk on the sands, but going in the water is something anyone sensible would avoid due to the heavy pollution load - most people travel to other countries to get a real beach experience. If you just want a sea/water view, you can find it anywhere on the Island (leaving out parts of the Mainland, Lamma, Lantau etc - all which are a struggle to get to for your work, though not impossible).
