I will be planning a trip to HK soon, probably at the end of the year for a week or so. I don't think that hotels are really my cup of tea... too poshy and too expensive (I think).. so if any of you know of any hostels for backpackers, please let me know yeah... preferably in a convenient location... thanks alot!!!!!

I wonder if Chungking Mansion's your cup of tea? Have you seen the movie "Chungking Express"?

Rache, how about the Salisbury YMCA in TST? Open to both men and women. Views over the harbour and Hong Kong Island. Pools and a fitness centre. Book early. If you're in for a posh moment you can always hop over to the next door Peninsula hotel for afternoon tea.

Actually, what is the normal rate like in HK for a hostel? How cheap is cheap, what is considered expensive and to what kind of services normally?

Well I just need the basics like a bed to myself, a roof over my head, proper toilets to poo poo in, proper bathroom facilities etc... nothing really posh like goose down duvets and swimming pool hehee...Another reason why I prefer a hostel is because I like meeting backpackers.

Can someone teach me how to cut and paste hyperlinks? (Yes, I have already checked the FAQ but still can't get it right). Sorry Rache not adequately digitalised yet. Check travel.roughguides.com. The Rough Guide usually have the latest on funky places to stay. I prefer the Rough Guide to the Lonely Planet (keep meeting the same people all the time with LP). BTW, I don't think there is such thing as a cheap accomodation in HK.

nomen...normally you just type the name and the forum will convert it into a hyperlink if it recognises it as such...like www.hkexpats.com

thanks, but what I meant was I had wanted to to give Rache the exact page on the rough guide website, like tiny did with the ymca and frommers, but somehow all I could capture was travel.roughguides.com. Like I said before, I'm much of a digidummy.

Rach there is a youth hostel in Pokfulam. Haven't seen it but heard from someone else it is OK. Most youth hostels allow non-members to use them for an extra premium.

Rachel it is called Mt Davis Hostel. Below is the website. http://www.yha.org.hk . How come it's not a link? Anyway, easy to type in.
Oooops just realised it comes up as a link once you post.
