Has anyone ever booked tickets over the internet trough www.elong.com? I am trying to buy a flight to Kunming but because it's a mainland Chinese company they want me to fax them a copy of my passport and credit card card (back and front). Passport I can understand but copy of credit card I am very suspicious, it does not seem very safe to me.
What do you think?

Recently I have withdrawn my support of Zuji since they owe me over two grand for lost tickets and it's taken 'em over 18 months to still have done feck all about it. And yes police reports etc have been submitted.

Well through HK (and Zuji) it's twice the price... This one is from Shenzhen airport.

Faxing a copy of the Creditcard? Sounds pretty dangerous to me.
Wouldn't recommend it...

LT, file a small claim http://www.judiciary.gov.hk/en/crt_services/pphlt/html/sc.htm. I can even help you do the paperwork if you want (I don't think you'd need the help but it makes me practice my forms filling skills :-))

You're not liable for fraudulent use of your credit card details and it is not uncommon these days for people to require fax (or emailed scanned) copies of credit cards to "prove" that you do actually own it. I don't think the credit card companies would regard the faxing of a copy to an apparently reputable merchant as negligent behaviour, so you're pretty much covered except for the hassle factor.

" ...to an apparently reputable merchant... "

That's where my concern lies...

Jesswill, China Travel sells tickets originating from SZ to mainland. I reckon it'd be easier if you go to their office directly.

Thanks everyone. After all I cancelled the tickets (well did not confirm) and went to CTS in Central. If you know exactly the flights you want it's the same price. I'm very happy.

Oh and for info I phoned my credit card company to ask if it was something normal to do (fax a copy of you r credit card) and the guy answered "no, I wouldn't do it if I were you". So that really settled it.
