Another air crash in Indonesia....

I wonder if the kindly government down there will once again perform a full and unbiased investigation and sort everything out?

Average by Intention.

All Indonesian Airlines are very firmly on my "don't fly" list, along with China Airlines, Orient Thai, and Korean Airlines.

As an aside I got fed Jollibee on board a CX flight the other night, which was a first! Great airline.

What about Aeroflop? 'Cause statistically, it has more accidents than China Airlines and Korean Airlines.

How funky is your chicken?

The new hostie uniforms on Korean are quite fetching, though it must be devilishly hard to remove those kimchee stains.

Er, no it doesn't. Aeroflot has only had one crash of an international flight in many, many years and that was the one where the pilot let his kid fly it into the ground. That isn't going to happen again.

Nope - they served Jollibee in Business (although I was only there because I got upgraded - I was paying for economy, as I almost always do when flying within the region).

Statistical in the case of Indonesian airlines, China Airlines & Korean Airlines. Perceived in the case of Orient Thai.

Jollibee in Business? Was that standard fare, or had they failed to provide enough meals from Hong Kong for the return leg?

Neither. It was because just as we were approaching Manila, at about 23:15, somebody pranged their Cessna on the (only big-jet capable) runway and the airport was closed. We hung around for a while then we had to divert and they decided to go to Cebu, where we arrived at about 1:30. They had obviously radioed ahead to get the CX ground team out of bed there, and they had called out for extra supplies. So while we sat around on the tarmac in Cebu for a couple of hours we had Jollibee, sandwiches and stuff, and drank them out of booze. In fact it was quite a party. Eventually they got the runway cleared at NAIA and off we went, finally arriving at about 4:30am. Good work by the CX team in Cebu having been pulled from their beds - many airlines would have just let everyone stew for a few hours (witness a number of cases in the US recently).

I had that discussion with the captain, but CX has no ground support at Clark, and also there are no airbridges, ground power and so on. It would have been good for me because I could have got to Mrs smog's place much quicker. I do know that a Korean flight diverted to Clark, but they do have ground support there.

Sounds like fun. Agree that very few airlines would do that. I had a diversion and emergency landing with Bangkok Airways a few years back where they provided very little, even in terms of apology. Just a three hour wait at Surat Thani for a replacement aircraft.

And you could have had a sneaky few hours in the fleshpots of Angeles before diverting to Mrs Smog's.

Mrs smog's fleshpot is all I need thanks very much. And anyway, although I've never partaken, just driving down Fields Avenue (as you have to to get to most of the half-decent restaurants in the area) I find the whole Angeles scene really quite depressing. Wanchai is bad enough for sad sights, but Angeles is infinitely worse.

So you feel out of place amongst the geriatric sexpats, soldiers of fortune, villains on the lam and (ahem) Cathay pilots?
