I've heard of a big new ski resort being built in Xinjiang province.
How do you get there from HK?

if its true then its possibly at tah shan which is about 1 hours drive east of the capital urumqi. ( wulumuchi )....you can fly to urumqi from hong kong on china eastern or southern......cheaper to fly from shenzen.......I cant imagine the ski fields will be very big ..I was there in 2005 treking and its good looking country but a long way to go ......there are some fields in sichuan
you can pick up very cheap flights back to shnenzen from urumqi if you buy a ticket there close to the flight day.....I got a flight for 1200 rmb

Got an email saying the place called Pingtian. www.pingtianresorts.com
I’ve skied what’s supposed to be China’s best (Yabili) and wasn’t impressed. Maybe this will be better.

A friend just tried skiing in China. You get rental ski and boots, all the old stuff from Austria or Germany, the hotel are dirty. So, better you go to Japan and try China in five years again.
Even skiing in NZ, in Julay makes fun.

I went snowboarding at Nanshang. Not world class by any stretch, but pretty good for mine. Weekend away including flights and accomodation, equipe hire, basically everything, was around $5000HKD. That includes beer money :)

Thanks for the input. Glad to know there are some skiers around HK. Judging from the Pingtian website, the terrain looks great. Of course it all depends on what they do with it. Did a search on Xinjiang and it looks pretty wild. Could be something here.
