Pokfulum is one of the MAIN expat residential areas in HK. Mostly low-rise , mostly families with kids. Easy comute into central and Kennedy School / West Island School are very well regarded. No restuarants to speak of so u have to dive into central but that is not a hard thing.
Other people who live there will no-doubt add more but it's safe and a god bet.

I've lived in Pokfulam now for just over 4 years and have to say that, hands down, it's the best place I've ever lived in nearly 21 years HK (which includes Homantin, Sai Kung, Happy Valley). My youngest is at Kennedy and eldest at West Island and they both love the schools. Commute into Central is easy enough (even at peak rush hour in the morning it takes me about 30 mins on a minibus; other times it's 15-20 mins).
Air quality is deffo good, primarily cos it's right by the sea so we have the advantage of more breezes/wind.
Re/ the Stanley Ho sports centre ~ it's open to public membership, works out at about $12k a year for a family of 4, the last time I checked. Depending on where you choose to live, tho, you could find your apartment block/complex has its own facilities ~ mine has tennis courts, pool, playground for kids. The Cyberport developments have 5-star class facilities with clubhouse etc. Older developments (primarily around the Bisney Rd/Consort Rise areas) tend to have no facilities, tho.

I like the way my reply was deleted, even though it gave joy to thousands, but chopstick's totally useless reply stays in place...

DB is certainly more of a community because of the plaza area, with restaurants etc; Pokfulam doesn't have that kind of thing. However, you'll find Mon-Fri kids (and weekends at West Island level of schooling!) have homework and/or afterschool activities, so keeping them occupied is not an issue. Weekends there are heaps of options, not necessarily confined just to the area where you live! And if you have do facilties where you live, then kids can come over and hang out there ~ without you worrying about where they are, who they're with, etc etc.
PS/ And you'll find a lot of the kids' friends all live in the area, too, as the ESF schools work on allocation by 'catchment' areas, which then means visiting mates or having them over is easy, too.

Aren't there restaurants / shops at Cyberport?

Cyberport is about 10 mins gentle stroll from Sandy Bay. Has a Parknshop, post office, couple of banks, cinema, a few shops and restos ~ but it's pretty much dead. Monthly market kicked off yesterday up on the grassy rooftop bit, so that might help give things a kick up the backside.

It depends what you consider a 'good choice of western foodstuffs' as all PnS have western stuff whilst many 'pats will prefer a fairly cosmopolitan diet.
But please bring Frey Bentos pies over if you don't mind.

W> It's fine for your basics, but on the small-ish side. I prefer to drive out to the big PNS over at Parkview, where the selection is much better and the aisles wider... plus they have a pretty good in-store bakery that does lovely fresh bread there.

Lola - do you need to Pimp Your Trolley to get the benefit from those wider aisles?
