thinkabout that, theres a lot in it to think about there. i have been caught in a rat race as well, but more and more im getting away from that, no need for 3 42 inch tv's, 2 cars, taxi rides everywhere, dinners in four seasons (hell i can cook so why?).... and im becoming a happier guy daily, even if we have a lill less!
I'm sure if locals can afford these (3 42 inch tv's, 2 cars, etc) they probably could afford their maids a private room.
Not all of us have the luxuries you have. Both parents have to work. Who is going to look after their children just because we don't have a private room for the maids?
Some men were borned dicks.

As for the silly argument that things are worse in Singapore.... we are in Hong Kong - wake up to that fact. In Canada they would be making significantly more money and would be eligible for immigration and residency.
Many Filipinas have worked in Singapore before, and HK minimum salary is truly a premium package from their perspective.

One of the other main attractions for Filipinas about HK is its proximity to "home" - they feel they can get home to their children or family very quickly and at not too great a cost if they have to. The same doesn't really apply from Europe or North America.

Hi, I suspect that a lot of you never had a "helper" in your own country this is why all this debate. If you want help you pay for it, treat them as you would like to be treated Stop patronizing. I have one in the last 15 years, and we totally respect each other. We pay $34per hour she only comes in three times a week. I am sure you can have this in HK too.

$34 in what currency? If Australian then sure - if you go around offering people the equivalent of that here in HK (i.e. HK$217/hr) you'll have a queue a mile long since that would be nearly three times the average wage.

You would be surprised there ARE local people who are willing to do some easy domestic work at HK$34, it's a lot compare to working as a cashier behind the 7-11 counter or same sort of business.

Even in Australia, A$34/hour is above average income, which seems surprising for a menial job.

if you work 10 hours a day, 5.5 days a week thats 47K a month. Not bad at all!
It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than open ones mouth and remove all doubt.

Let me know if you are paying the same rate when you are in HK. I will send my helper over for her to have some extra pocket money, she will be very pleased.

Forget that, if you're still paying A$34 p.h., I'll quit my job and come scrub yer toilets.

But we know that wouldn't be technically legal...just wishful thinking, ey?

Yes but she does not work here much and cost of living is pretty high here apart from housing compared with HK. So you need $$. Also you get what you pay for!
Like i said before I am going to become a housewife and do all my housework and shopping in my spare time! and of course keep contributing to this great forum.
