My last place in Happy Valley was 1,400 sq ft. With seven (six humans; plus six cats which can count for one human unit) of us in there, that works out to 200 sq ft each. Do I win?

2 wrongs dont make a right.....catz its about treatment ....if the dh gives a couple the ability to earn more then they should in turn pay the correct wages and ensure the best possible conditions....................not look down on the dh as 2nd rate humans.....and thats what i see too often...and the kids learn these ways early and also treat an ault dh in ways that would deserve a kick up the kids and parents arse..........

who say that they not pay the correct wages? and the best possible condition is sometime the kitchen floor or under the stair etc...., again, if the dh not like the condition why they take on the employment? BTW, 3600$ is a very good pay compared with others in hk.

puyi, I know lots of helpers live in a decent-size room (just because they live on Lamma where we have bigger flats usually) compare to those in town, who got treated badly by their (both local and western) employers whilst many helpers sleeping in the kids room got treated nicely by their employers.

That's right shazza. Especially if they're looking after the kids and and they get on well, sleeping in the same room is often not really an issue.

puyi, I keep having the impression that you're saying people who can't provide a room for the helper are not allowed to hire a rdh. I'm not saying 2 wrongs doesn't make one right. Where did I say that?

Giant, do you live by youself? do you have a maid?

actually it is HK$ 3,400 Per month. a road cleaner or security guard earns 5000-6000, but not get free food and free accomodation etc.. and have to work much harder.

mango the 2 jobs you quoted get freedom.........they have choice and not the end of contract at a seconds notice which results in them leaving hk.....as for the security guards their job is mind numbingly boring..............

Most locals pay exactly the minimum and some pay below the minimum to Indonesians ->perhaps the average salary could be even below the current minimum if it was not regulated.

If Mainlanders could be hired as DH's that would make quite a change, but I guess there's no way that such a visa scheme could be introduced with PRC - old timers, ever seen such discussed?

puyi, are you avoiding my question? I only want a yes or no from you. You're saying that locals who can't provide a private room for the fdh shouldn't hire one?

exactly if you cant provide a room, i.e. some form of privacy for wen he/she rests, then you should not be allowed to hire a helper! I am surprised you even asked this Catz!

its a bit like taking the staff canteen away, and asking the staff to go and stand on the street to eat their lunch innit?

No avoidance just questioning the contract why it requires size............if the dept of labour / immigration need to know the size of the apartment they must have an ulterior motive.....if it’s the case that they consider the apartment too small then what ???? and put the question to yourself do you think it is fair reasonable to have the dh sleep on the floor of a kitchen because they are desperate enough to take any job they can get to help support their family back home.....it’s a question of treatment......would you like to spend your days off sitting in public walkways in all weathers????

Hmm, I see. So for parents who need to work to support the family, they should leave the children at home by themselves.
