apartment to rent in Sai Kung

I am planning to move to Sai Kung....I know little about the place, my budget is from HK$5000 to 6K.
Is it a good Idea of moving to Sai Kung? I will not have any problem of transfortation, I will get a car. Is my budget is good enough to get a nice apartment?
Anyone here, familiar of Sai Kung.........I want some information.
Anyone who could be of help, my Thanks in advance.

hi,
not really much information to go on. you'll have to write more. I can tell that Sai Kung comprises numerous villages, each is different, unless of course you mean the town centre where parking is a nightmare on the weekends. A typical village house is three floors, each with 700 sqft per floor. however sometimes you might find 500, or 350 per floor units. Roof unit is most expensive due to 700 sqft roof. Sea views also add to the cost. but for 6-7K will be ground or middle floor.
If you are a light sleeper it might be a problem because many older villagers keep alot of dogs, that bark every time someone approaches, for example when the night police patrol they can set-off 30 or more dogs start barking at 2 in the morning.
Unlikely to secure a "decent" flat inclusive for that budget, depending on your definition of decent, and certainly will not include car parking cost. Village parking costs vary, budget for HK$800 up (per month). If you park in the wrong place some idiot may take offense and key your car, cut off the radio aerial, kick it, etc.
Some people view security as an issue, has not happened to me, but my neighbours have been burgled.
We will consume 85 million barrels of oil today, what's going to be left for tomorrow?

Sai Kung is a pretty stressful place. If you live in a village your neighbours can be a total nightmare. I think some of the the most uncivilised people live in sai kung.
Arguing all the time, killing puppies in winter to make soup, letting off fire crackers at any time day or night. You also have frogs croaking, triad car races zooming past your home at night. Yes it is very peaceful.

I forgot to mention neighbours with Karaoke machines. It is still "IN" Sai Kung to have Karaoke parties.

Hi There,
Thanks to every one who give me the best details and replied to my post "Apartment to Rent in Sai Kung". Yeah, I thinks it's right that it's quite annoying to have neighbours who don't care much about others peace and privacy. Mentioning, Karaoke partying, triad's and dogs are most common problem in living a remote area. In Addition, so it means I have to make my budget higher in order to get a safer, more quite and decent place. That's really nice to know. I love to live closer to the beach and like mountain side....so I guess I have to go on checking different places:-(

Lamma and Lantau have beaches and mountains too and people are easier to deal with, if you don't mind the ferry rides.

I am not quite sure if I will have enough energy to catch up the ferries during busy hours and tiring days......

I lived in Sai Kung for a year before and had really nice neighbours. I think it really depends on yer luck and the location. The transportation, though, was quite a nightmare for me as I was working in Wanchai. Being on a minbus and then the MTR for an hour plus wasn't very pleasant in the morning. I believe driving would be the same, or worse at peak hours if you work far, like HK island.
On the other hand, ferry journey is often much nicer and less stress and you won't be standing all the way...

Yeah peak hours is always a nightmare. I am really into moving to Sai Kung, so I guess I have to take time to find a nice location and apartments. I will fly back to HK soon and will check the Area.
By the way, I am in Spain right now and trying to find a web site where I could access to Aparment renting via Internet, I can't find such sites..............any Idea? Highly appreciated

Years ago I lived in a village just like KM described, it was Nam Wai. It had it all, the dogs, noisy neighbors, fireworks on every possible occasion, temple celebrations on every possible occasion, damage to vehicles, however I can also assure you that not every village in Sai Kungi is as bad as that.
Anther tip, unless you like having your hangover / lazy mornings interupted with loud fireworks, firecrakers, symbols and drums - NEVER chose an apartment located anywhere near the village temple.
