No personal experience with this, but I'd guess it gets harder for them as they get older and have to leave behind real friends as opposed to other kids that they're just used to eating crayons with and mostly don't even know their names.

Are you sure about that?

don't ask so many stupid questions. HK has a population of ~7 Million and the tennagers are happy and unhappy same as just in any city in the world.

I would think the teenagers would love it here. IT's so easy to get around in HK as tge transport system is prob. one of the best in the world. Whereas in a lot of countries you need to rely on someone to drive you around. Out here you can get from place to place with such ease.

It's also very easy for the teeny boppers to get into bars and clubs.

I don't know, if I were a teenager, i'd much rather be living here in Hong Kong than say... Riyadh.

These are not stupid questions at all, so stop hassling already, Mango.

The practical section has been created specifically with these type of inquiries in mind.
True, we get the same questions repeated quite often, but we'll sort that out by expanding the Wiki section...

Kids like it here, but I feel that the Int'l Skool kids are too divided from the local kids, they don't even learn any Cantonese there, and they learn simplified characters on their Mandarin lessons (even in U.S. when they teach Mandarin they usually teach it with Classical characters).

What's the point of learning classical characters when China & most Chinese apart from Taiwan and HK use simplified?

Average by Intention.

Well, you live in Hong Kong and you're surrounded by classical characters wherever you go. And classical characters look better!

I moved a lot as a kid and in some cases I was left living totally alone for months at a time.

Down side:
Even as teenager I felt like a foreigner back at home and that I don't belong there. I think it one of the reasons why I moved to HK and stayed here. In Hong Kong is blatant I am a foreigner and I know where my place is.
In some countries it took a while for people treat your normally or accept you. I had to have many punch ups what ever school I went to.
Ended up with pretty screwed up English due to growing up with 3 or 4 languages.

Up side:
I am able to interact well with people of any level any social background, any race. Dunno if that is because I moved or my families outlook on people around us.

I am great a languages, in addition to the languages I speak, I can go to any country and start learning the lingo very fast.

For years I was not able to look at my fellow contry men objectively and understand their faults and wrong doings. If I had not been moved around I would just have the "groups" tunnel vision. I find that people that have not moved around are not able to look at their society/social group objectively or provide any substantial critiques.

Caution: this post contains content that might lead to unrealistic expectation in real relationships. keep out of reach of immature people.
