My wife and I are considering a canal boat holiday with our toddler in June this year, either in Italy or France.
We've done some research but something that has struck us is how daggy most of the boats look. The newer fibreglass specimens look a bit naf. (Maybe it's just the photos).
The 'narrowboats' look great, but they are in the minority and seem to lack seating at the back where you drive from. We want to be able to sit together as we trundle down the canals.
Anyone with canal boat holiday experience out there? Do you have any tips or suggestions as to what to look for?
Thanks.

If you want to make a canal holiday you should consider Holland and they have much nicer boats and much better organized as the french and italians. Maybe you ask our forum cookie as he is from Holland.
almost always friendly and polite

Hi i have done this twice and you MUST take a narrow boat, preferably an older one. its a great experience but do not expect to sit together with more then 2 poeple in one space. its just too tiny for that.
Mango is on one piont right, nicer boats, bifgger canals etc in Holland, but what I myself really enjoyed was doing this in Ireland on the Shannon River, whch i have done about 8 times.
hope this helps

Quick English lesson here folks - French, Italian and Organised are not words that can appear in the same sentence.
You used to speak the truth. But now you're clever.

The French are perfectly well organised, I'm sorry (it's just that we have our own type of organisation)
up to not much
