Singapore getting very expensive [ New Topic]

Just spent 2 days in sin city on biz and the wife accompanied and we both commented that since the last time we were there (6 mths ago) prices seemed to have gone up significantly across the board - far more than can be explained away by inflation and the weak dollar/hk peg.

We used to view Singapore as cheaper then HK in all aspects but we left thinking the reverse. Even electronic goods held a premium to HK.

Wondering if anyone else picked up this vibe from a recent visit...

They've changed the GST recently haven't they (from 5% to 7%)?

You used to speak the truth.
But now you're clever.

definitely from my recent visit to singapore - food to electronics to grocery items - singapore has become more expensive than hong kong that's why i came home with an empty suitcase.

good - glad it wasn't just me. Dont think the extra 2% GST would explain it either.

I also think that Singapore is now more expensive than HK.......apart from rental obviously.

the only thing that i found cheap-er are vitamins. a friend of mine who used to live in hk and relocated to singapore said that electricity is really comparatively more expensive in singapore. so i guess i need not complain about my electric bill!!

Here's another reason, SGD is slowly but surely getting stronger against USD and HKD:
