Do kids need to be wearing sun protection throughout the year in HK? my boys are moving over in August and wondered what other families do to protect their kids from the sun? can anyone recommend a good sun cream thats not too oily as i find some of them very greasy. Need something that is like a moisturiser with sun protection built in. Any advice for me, anyone?

throughout the year? OMG ....erh if they literally live ion the beacha nd only have swimwear then maybe yes. my boys only use sun lotion when hiking, swimming etc. on normal other days they do not wear it.

honestly you dont want your kids to be colorless like many of the local gals here are

If they're in the sun, they should have some kind of either subnblock, or skin covering such as a legionares cap and long sleeves. simple as that... you can still get sunburnt in winter, though the UV index is obviously much lower.
HK has a long summer!

My kids use something which is a Mozzie Repellent and Sun block all in one and is endorsed by the Aussie Cancer Foundation, available at decent Kids shops in Ocean Terminal and I think Bumps to Babes in Horizon Plaza

I like to use virgin Olive Oil, as it gives my skin an almost Lobster like glow.....

I am aspiring to be just OK!

Isn't it nuts to have the sun block for kids 24/7?
We live on a very sunny island where you basically are exposed to the sun all the time. We only use those things when we go for a picnic or to the beach.

lol.. no Shaz, if they're exposed to the sun, it's a good idea to have some protection on. In Australia, the legionaires caps are mandatory, and part of all primary school uniforms. That might have something to do with the fact that Australia has the higherst skin cancer rate in the world though :)

its different as it provides sun blocking to the back of the neck which is a common place for skin cancers

Don't worry. As your kids get accustomed to Hong Kong, they'll be spending most of their time in dungeon like gaming centres, fast food outlets and shopping malls, far far away from scorching UV light.

you can turn around the baseball cap and then the skin cancer will appear on the nose, but much easier to see there.

Any outdoor equipment shop (e.g. http://www.protrek.com.hk ) will sell you them, plus Stanley market, etc.

Mummy's little soldier gets a spiffing legionnaires hat. He'll really thank you for that when his mates see him.

How about a sailor suit as well?

eBluesky? Are they gingers? That maybe a problem. (not the actual fact that they have red hair, more towards their sun sensitivety)
