He was (is?) a singer from back in the day - had a big hit with the song 'when the going gets tough, the tough get going'

Which came the term "When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping."
I like his songs in the 80's.

I think he doesn't have the credibility of Eddie Grant, even though EG only really had one classic, seminal inspirational tune, in Electric Avenue

Eddie could at least point to the catchy 'Baby Come Back', recorded in 1968 with pioneering mixed race beat combo The Equals, on his CV. Plus he wrote a song about apartheid (Oh, give me hope, Joanna!), so it was pretty difficult to knock him.

he also had the massive 'crossover' hit: I don't wanna dance
ah yes, he was good - but was he better than Billy Ocean? Billy recorded Caribbean queen twice - one sung with the English pronunciation of Caribbean, and one with the American

I think Billy had greater international prominence due to his stronger middle of the road appeal, but Eddy wins due to his rasta credibility. 'Ooh mama, you got me livin' on the front line.."
Plus check out the leather pants here. Not many people other than Jim Morrison could've gotten away with these...
