I was not impressed when I saw a few apartments there 6-7 years ago and I doubt they are much better now. Very overpriced I thought.

Thanks - we are going stir crazy trying to find a decent place! Is that normal for expats first coming to live in HK?

Any advice please? We have to live in something decent until we can find our own way. All those high rises in the New territories are soul-less and Sai Kung is too far away.

I think you do tend to get shown a lot of s**t, and many agents just see a naive new arrival, with a lavish company housing allowance, and try to take advantage. I think over time you get to know when they are taking the p**s.

The usual advice given here is to take a serviced apartment for a couple of months.

its best to see as many as possible to help you realise what is avaliable and what you like......

and also bargain and ask for 10 - 15 % less than the asking rental

Thankyou but we have good BS detectors already - those types of people exist everywhere.

I would like to know the better quality apartments and where they are please. We have only been surfing the web to find apartments so far and have found Pacific Palisades and Horizon Harbour view to our liking.

Thanks again.

What's your budget and what kind of area are you looking for? Chinese? Gweilo ghetto? Where will you be working? You need a balcony? A roof? Pool and clubhouse? Or just need to be near transport and supermarkets? There are so many variables.

I can reccomend one or two in the $50,000+ per month department... how big do you need it, and where do you need to be?
