If you bought the dimmable CF (compact fluorescent) lamps, then yes you can use a dimmer on that circuit, if you bought the regular CF lamps, then no.

Dimming CF lamps doesn't cover the full range of brightness (0-100%) that you may expect with traditional lamps, it depends on the lamp, and typically the dimmable range is quite small - in other words don't bother.

oh, for the non believers/naysers:

how about high frequency Compact fluorescent lights. I've heard there is this type that flickers at much faster rate than the usual ones and are good enough replace incandescent light bulbs in places like sitting rooms or studies etc.

anyone know about these?

For good quality tubes you can use full spectrum lighting fittings, very good colour rendering and illumination, expensive thou.

LED technology will be the next "big thing", once decent quantities are available will also filter down to household, then you would have to change a light bulb every 100,000 hours.

no...you must wait for 100K hours!!! write on the side of the bulb, when you change it, the date and time, and there's a handy reference everytime you turn it on

I am aspiring to be just OK!
