How about another idea for the site.... Restaurant of the Day. Tell us where and how you rated the food and service. Maybe even give it a rating... like 5 stars for excellent.

I'll start:

You'll laugh I know... but I can't tell you the name of the restaurant, because it was written in Chinese. It's located on the 4th floor at IFC. Serves Shanghainese cuisine. I went there for lunch with a friend and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the noodles. The service was nothing to shout about but they were quite effecient.

The strange thing though was... all of a sudden, drilling started and the look of shock on everybody's faces was hilarious. Even the staff looked bewildered! If anyone can tell us what the name of that restaurant is, that would be helpful.

Rating: 5 stars for food. 4 stars for service.

kshirl, actually anywhere in the world really. It's just interesting to see other people's points of view, ya know?

KT, you'd be one of the best reviewers because you *are* biased!

Then there is also the Poet's Cafe in Montville (in the mountains). THat was great for breakfast, especially when you had a hangover.

The whole idea is to give us an idea of the food and the service, in a little more detail. And now that I think about it.. perhaps it would make more sense just to review the restaurants here in Hong Kong so that we can try them as well.

Excellent choice madam. Now for the Kowloon side, I only remember the dehli club so far. It was pretty good. but remember Ima newbie and haven't had the oppurtunity to wade through the copious quantities of resturants this fine city has to offer yet. I'm all ears..

Oh and there is a good italian resturant in Festival Walk. Can remember what it's called. Quantity is good and quality is very nice.

I think you mean Amaroni's at LG1 in Festival Walk.

Do you mean Amaroni's? If so, I went there last year and unfortunately for them, that was the last time ever because of bad service and fairly average food.

I'm quite fond of:

39A Gough Street (name of the restaurant and address)
Central
Thai Fusion

Apart from the expected Thai & Thai fusion fare, Chef Patron David also has daily specials that are prepared according to your wishes, or in "surprise me" mode. Prices are reasonable and food is very well presented and excellent quality and taste.

Be sure to try the daily home-made cheesecake in unusual flavours, such as Sambuca, Pina, Mars, Pistachio...

.
Even sick puppies need love...

Agree ~ being brutally honest, reading a post like "I went to this resto somewhere and I can't remember where it was exactly or what it was called but the food was okay, you should check it out" irritates the f**k out of me. That's not a review, that's a brainfart.

There is a very nice restaurant called Chonqing on 27-29 Elgin Street (Eel-a-Ginn-Guy) (2810 8868)

Szechuan all the way baby - including the famous 'chicken in a bowl of dried chilis' so beloved of me and mine. They tend to tone down the spiciness for westerners, so if you really do like the way it was meant to be cooked, then let them know that you can handle it

The Szechuan beef is very good indeed

Decor wise, it is a little bit basic, and the idea of having a graffiti wall, though well intended, was perhaps not the greatest idea in the world, given people's predilection for graffing such bon mots as 'I have a huge c**k' etc

If you are one of those people who like a bit more class, or if your fragile expat sensibilities demand a superior level of fawning, then just around the corner on Peel Street is Shui Hu Ju (68 Peel Street, Tel: 2869-6927) - sort of like Chongqing's younger, better looking sister - also dealing in Scezhuan

Food is very good, and they don't cheat on the spices - the service is also very good, and it is a nice atmosphere - for dessert, they have chilli ice cream, which is fab...sort of like Schezuan Cornetto (give it to me)

anyway, peace up, A down and all that

Chonqing, if you're lucky enough to get a seat in the 'main' resto that's great. If not, they'll put you across the street in the 'jewelery-making' shop, which is ok, but don't expect to get great service there as the waiters/waitresses would only come over to deliver your order.

Went to iCaramba last night and they had some new dishes, mostly made with cactus. It was interesting, tasted sort of like pickles, but I wouldn't go there just for that.

www.eatdrinkhongkong.com is a good site for resto reviews.
