We are down to 1 kid for our summer hols this year (hurrah!) and he wants to go somewhere he can scuba dive.
Any good suggestions forl ocations/resorts where a 14 y/o can be booked onto a good & safe scubadiving course (he has dived once before) whilst mum and dad lay by the pool getting drunk. In Asia obviously.
thanks

Pretty much anywhere.
I prefer the Philippines and Malaysia rather than Thailand. A couple of places I was thinking of trying later is Moalboal, Cebu ( a 3 hour ride from Cebu airport) and Anilao 3 hours south of Manila, near Batangas. But in both places the accomodation available aren't 'luxurious.'
One can scuba dive near the posh resorts near Cebu airport but not very good and they are wall dives.

Thanks. Any reason the pines is better than Thailand? We have done the pines in the past 2 years for short breaks but have not been to Thailand for a few years (it's a hard life living in HK isn't it....) so was secretly hoping someone would suggest some place in Thailand.
Only problem I guess with thailand in July is that it's full of people from the UK....

Is the teenager in question a certified diver ? If not he can not go diving.
Cebu is horrible as I am currently there . visibility is low and the water pollution is such that it induces vomitting .
Try Kota Kinabalu if you want something close to home.
Britney is a disease ridden pest and should be exterminated. How to do ?

How about Palau? Two direct flights a week from Hong Kong.
There are a lot of slapdash operators in Thailand & Philippines. As an experienced diver who lost his PADI card years ago and never bothered replacing it, I use these outfits on a regular basis, but I wouldn't want my kid learning with one.
I can recommend Atlantis Divers in Puerto Galera and Borneo Divers in Kota Kinabalu. Or try the PADI site and look for 5* or golden palm operators for a slightly higher standard.
Not sure where will be good in July. I think there are a lot of monsoon areas at this time meaning poor vsisibility & choppy water.

Sorry Bloke, it's a suggestion rather than a personal recommendation, but it's a world renowned diving destination, and definitely also great for sun, sailing, fishing etc. A colleague went earlier this year and it looks stunning. It's pretty high on my list to try next.

i don't like diving in Thailand because it often involves long speedboat journeys to get to a site and basically I don't like Thailand much.
As CAG said, the ATlantis Resort in Puerto Galera is nice but the best beach (Little Laguna) is a 10 minute walk away. Good snorkelling, too. Bear in mind you have to get to Manila, then a 3 hour drive to Batangas, then an hour on the boat to get to the island. I did Sipidan at CNY and althought the diving was superb, it's expensive and involves a long trek.
I've heard good things about Palau, too. Don't go to Guam. Full of Yanks! And army blokes at that!
Halo, which part of Cebu are you diving in?

Actually I reckon the best beaches are a boat ride away. White Beach is very nice, as are some of the secluded beaches around the coves & islands in the area. You can rent a boat with driver, food and beer cooler for the afternoon very reasonably.
I've done Manila Airport to Batangas in an hour and a half by the way early morning. Watch out for the rather sleazy touts at Batangas Ferry Pier who will lie to you about the ferry schedule to try to get you to take a long tail boat. This is good fun but much more expensive.

Hold on - do you mean Scubadiving suitable for teenagers or actually diving for teenagers in Asia? Cos I think you can find quite a lot milling around on the beaches of HK and you prolly won't need to dive or even use special equipment.
I'll get me coat.
You used to speak the truth. But now you're clever.

I think the aquatic teenager beds of Hong Kong have all but disappeared, due mainly overfishing (resulting from the insatiable demand of Hong Kong restaurants), loss of habitat & pollution.

Palau Asia Pacific Air on Saturdays & Wednesdays. Or you can probably go via Manila or Guam.
