Let's hope so - this is the first time I've bought in HK, so I hope it doesn't all go horribly wrong. I do know that a nearby building is up for the "knock-down 6 storeys & build a new one with 30" treatment in the next few months, so there's going to be a bit of noise, but there seems more or less unavoidable in the mid-levels at the moment.

Yup, it's the risk you have to take unfortunatley.. just as long as that 30 storey bldg does not block any views.

...but that should help bring your price up if the development is a good one....

Don't want to go off subject, but I see the investment angle...but how much and how long generally speaking would such a thing pay off?

That is to say, if one knew they would be around for 2 to 3 years in HK...is it in their interest to rent or buy? (assuming the rent and payments are similar) or would they be?

Or practically speaking, would a purchase really benefit someone staying much longer?

DM.. you can make quick money in this town but you have to know where and what to buy. My weekend hobby is keeping an eye in property shop windows

You don't need to necessarily look at HK as a LT investment

Paps, wish there were a thread where your experience and that of others could be put....would really be valuable.

If threads like that on important topics existed....the value would be tremendous.

Went to view apartments last weekend. Wife rejected CC due to dogs being allowed. SC had an apartment in lower floor where the water had dried up in the U bend of the drainage and therefore stank. Isn't that how SARS spread through the Amoy block before? Saw a number of flats in CS. Wanted 3 bedroom and there are a lot available. One of them has never been lived in. Prices varied from HKD10.5K to 14K, all either A, B, C or D. 14K has converted one of the bedrooms into study area. It was interesting but too expensive compared to others available. La Rossa hits the market this weekend where prices are expected to be 12K. Will wait until after weekend and then view more in CS.
