How do you classify programmes like Survivor, The Contender, American Idol, The Apprentice, INXS Rockstar, Super Nanny, Wife Swap and the like? And what else can they come up with? Maybe "The Internet Site Poster of the year". [:x)]

They are generally classified as 'Reality TV'. It all started with Big Brother and it's gone down hill from there.....

Some of it is fun (although I think 'wife swap' has to go down as the worst and only survives through the title).

It works because anything on Playboy TV is just like a reality show, totally false and a waste of time.

The best I saw was a fly-on-the-wall series called Driving School back in the UK a few years back. There was a Mrs. Mopp called Mo and she was absolutely fantastic. That's, of course, she became "famous" and released a x'mas single or something like that.
