Anyone fancy meeting up for a pizza followed by Eugene Pao plays classic rock at Grappa's Cellar on Friday? I've seen the guy play jazz, which isn't really my thing but he is clearly an excellent guitarist so since he's playing the stuff that "inspired" him (AC/DC, Sabbath, Zeppelin, etc) then it should be good.

Does it still seem like a good idea to you BB?

Anyone else on for this?

I'll definitely be going along, after a warm up last night in Amazonia where we confirmed that the band there are really quite good when then stick to the harder older stuff (Floyd, Zeppelin, Purple, Stones) that us ageing gweilos like rather than trying to play more recent stuff for the other customers there.

He looked pretty normal to me...

But it was an excellent couple of hours of classic stuff. Very good band indeed - the drummer was exceptional.

The only slight downsides were Skip Moy, the sound man, having a bit of trouble with feedback, and having the misfortune to be too close to the bunch of RTHK announcers (Peter King, Steve James, etc) who clearly weren't there for the music and are rather too fond of the sounds of their own voices.

BB - who was that cantopop guy who came and karaoked the vocals on Black Dog? Was it Leo Ku? I thought he actually did quite a good job for a spur of the moment thing - the falsetto thing was unusual, but OK once you got into it!

Amazonia - same owner as the legendary Park Hotel in Manila. Great place to meet grizzled 'nam vets.

A bit of trouble... sound for radio bit was awfully muddy with too much bass, and way too much feedback for first two songs of second set... at which point I snook out and went home... it's a long way back to the boonies

So didn't see the Canto crap artiste.

Ahhh, me old mucka Steve James.... he can be a bit like that at times

I take under performing to new lows...
