Any idea about the best way to get hold of one in Hong Kong?
I have a valid old style UK license (pink, no photo, tattered) but no Hong Kong license as I have never had the need to drive here.

Wouldn't you get one from the transport dept? I also have the old pink tatty UK licence and they looked at it and gave me a HK licence without asking any questions, so I'd assume you could get an international licence without any hassle either.
But then again, what do I know?

You missed your chance. They were giving out "I am not a driving licence" certificates at the Landmark today.

I've still got a nice 'Green' UK licence - I refuse to change it as it is from the era of 'I'm English therefore I can'. It even has my speeding penalty on - 56 in a 30 zone - of which I am proud.
You used to speak the truth. But now you're clever.

2 steps:
1: Get a full HK license issued based on your UK license (Validity: 10 years, cost: HK$ 9xx , last time I looked)
2: Get a HK International license issued, based on your HK full license (validity: 1 year, cost: about a hundred bucks)
Presto!
. The problem with instant gratification is that it takes too bloody long...
