Hi there - new to HK and festering in a minute appartment in Causeway Bay. It is so small that you cannot get away from the other person in the flat. Husband was here alone but now that I have joined him for 6 months it really is closing in on us.....

Looking through ther property to rent I see loads of ads for Tung Chun, and can see from the map that it is right by the airport. In reality, what is it like to live there? Said husband works all over HK islands and the mainland, is transport a hassle? I would really like to hear some English spoken, is this the main expat area?

Or other area ideas (please???)?

But seriously, check the captioned threads.

Tung Chung is not the main English area, if there is such a thing, but there's plenty of gweilo's around.
Foreigners and poms alike are spread out throughout Hong Kong depending on proximity to work, schools, availability of a car, and quite importantly: Budget.

I live in Tung Chung, and like it there. Lived in Discovery Bay before, also pretty nice...

for our new SA poster:

Nkosi sikelel' iAfrika
Maluphakanyisw' uphondo lwayo,
Yizwa imithandazo yethu,
Nkosi sikelela, thina lusapho lwayo.

Morena boloka setjhaba sa heso,
O fedise dintwa la matshwenyeho,
O se boloke, O se boloke setjhaba sa heso,
Setjhaba sa South Afrika - South Afrika.

Uit die blou van onse hemel,
Uit die diepte van ons see,
Oor ons ewige gebergtes,
Waar die kranse antwoord gee,

Sounds the call to come together,
And united we shall stand,
Let us live and strive for freedom,
In South Africa our land.

Causeway bay is probably the worse place to live in HK aside from Wan Chai... too fooking busy with shoppers and the buildings are all on the same level which means you feel really closed in and the noice and the heat... Yuk !!

There are loads of other areas to consider depending on your needs for hubby's work

Some live in mid levels/sheung wan area
others live in Sai Kung/Clearwater bay
Discovery Bay
Tung Chung
Kowloon Tong

Check all them out on a map and come back here with more questions.. we are a helpful lot us

I wondered what that bright red glare was, coming from the general direction of the shuttlebus stop this morn.
