Hello,
I am a Shanghai resident and I will travel to Hong Kong from 30.07 to 05.08 to deal with visa questions.
Last time I've been to HK, I had to stay in Chungking Mansions in Kowloon, which is a really special place; I would not want to go back there again. I don't have much money, so I want to find a cheaper way to stay in HK for 2-5 days.
I tried to find some friends there, posted on forums, looking for company, but got no answer, maybe because it takes more time to be noticed.
I hope to find some good advice on your forum. Where could I stay for 1-5 nights in Hong Kong, given that it's hard for me to even spend HK150 per night in a hotel?
Looking forward to your responses.
Thanks.

If spending HK$150 per night is going to be too costly, I think you're going to have to stay in similar places as Chungking Mansions. There are plenty of "hostels" around HK who charge similar prices to Chungking but are less crowded but then again, you will be coming during the summer holidays and when there are plenty of backpackers and mainland tourists visiting.

I would bring your sleeping bag.. I hear the cultural centre is good for homeless folk... really you don't have any chance to gte anything for $150

Try the youth hostels, like the one on Mount Davis. It is cheap and the location is OK.

- stay where you are until you have enough money to come here
- choose a cheaper form of transport to get here, and use the saving on hotel
- bring a tent, and sleep on a beach
- sleep in a church
- Go to bar, get pulled and go home with the puller

AKA- Priceless response!

At my lemonade stand I used to give the first glass away free and charge five dollars for the second glass. The refill contained the antidote.

Thank you for replies.
Does get pulled here mean to get acquainted with someone and ask to stay over?

Yup you got it..but you need to buy drinks for them first making you night potentially more expensive than a cheap hotel

Ok, I see. Sorry for the mercantile question, how much would a drink cost at an average place?
By the way, did I post correctly, looking for someone to hang out together in 'talking / The Meeting Place'?

Thanks.

A drink on average in HK is about 60 dollare for an OK glass of wine up to around 100 for a decent glass
c**ktails around 100 dollars

With my lack of experience in hanging out in bars, I think I will be sleeping in Mirador Mansions!
Thank you for replies. Do you guys meet each other in HK? Maybe I can join you one day.

We do, but when we do on average we spend more than your budget just on a drink and a bite to eat.

Tsing Tao beers are around HK$55 for 12 in Wellcome. You might pay a little more in 7-11. You can buy there and hang out with the other revellers on the street Friday nights in Lan Kwai Fong. Some bars have $20 happy hours or beer specials. In Chinese bars you can often get a bucket of six for HK$100 or so. I think there's even a bar in Noho which has a free drinks for Men night.
