Well, when you have a good thing, everyone wants to look at it. 
It's inevitable. I hear parts of Machu Picchu are collapsing and in fact some parts have been 'restored'. Better go see it whilst it's still there.

I hear good things about visiting Burma (Myanmar), but 4-5 days may be too short.
There is of course the argument whether you would be feeding the dictatorial regime by visiting and spending your shekels there. The counterargument would be that you can only help the local population prosper by doing exactly that. Matter of personal choice I guess.

Just for the record, we went to..... Bali! Ths sister-in-law found the culture shock of HK alone was immense (she is from Cheshire after all) and then chaotic Bali was almost too much to bear. (!) When we hired a car to go to the North Coast she freaked out and went back home. We then had loads of fun.... and yet more Bintang.
But on your collective advice,I have decided to go to Macchu Picchu at Easter... with my daughter who is much more fun than her aunty. Zip- lining through the rain forest too!

Good for you. But avoid staying overnight in Cusco on your way to Machu Picchu. The ideal way to do it is fly to Lima; From Lima, fly to Cusco, but leave immediately for the Sacred Valley and stay there for a day or two, take the train to Machu Picchu, fly back to Cusco and stay overnight, then fly back to Lima and depart.

That's a rather long way to get to Stoke. Best bet is catch the train direct to Stoke station and then taxi into town or catch the bus. You can walk it but you might get mugged.

I think the thing that set the scene as "chaotic" for her was the festival going on in Kuta.
That involved the street our hotel was on being blocked off for a parade, and the taxi driver dropping us off a ten minute walk away. Bali pavements, crowds of people, wheeling suitcases along and dodging the dancing, costumed kids. Oh and all the motorbikes driving on pavements, up one-way streets the wrong way and a lack of English tea.
We had to stop half way up the road to recover our strength and drink bintangs...
