Ok the sister-in-law is visiting HK for her 50th birthday, and wants to go travelling round for 4-5 days. SHe is game for whatever, would be interested in places with History - I thought Kanchanaburi with the "Bridge on the river Kwai"???
I need your best suggestions! I went last year to Mulu and the rainforest was gobsmacking. Any other places with good jungle hotels? I am thinking caves and walks and ziplining throught the canopy. Apparently she would balk at snorkelling, but anything apart from a shopping or a beach holiday would be great.
Thanking you in advance, etc etc

On my to-do list forever have been Taman Negara, the orangutan sanctuary at Sepilok and climbing Mount Kinabalu (all in Malaysia). Google will throw up a variety of info links, but here's a place to start in the meantime: http://malaysia.travel/consumer/

How much effort in Mount Kinabalu? I went there once (I actually got the t shirt) but it was so misty we did not consider it. What is Taman Negara ? Went to Taman Safari outside Jakarta it was the most fun day I have EVER had but Jakarta was the pits. All sorts of pits.

Taman Negara is the oldest national park in Malaysia, offers various eco-tourism trips and accom in addition to the usual.

Never done Kinabalu but have been informed that as long as you have no serious health issues and are reasonably fit, it can be done safely.

If you can hold on until Monday, you'll probably get loads more responses from others far more well-travelled than I! And if you're really lucky, Dirty Boots will log on from Mexico or wherever she is and give you some pointers as well; she's the one with itchy feet here.

...oops, Capetowner might be a bit touchy about that.
Seems like she's opted for the holiday.

I always wanted to go to Ankor Wat (spelling?) in Vietnam. Google that, it is killer. when my dad come next year we are gong to hit that place up for sure.
At my lemonade stand I used to give the first glass away free and charge five dollars for the second glass. The refill contained the antidote.

No offence, but seeing as you post on practically every single active thread (and some long, long dead), it's not hard for anyone to appear to be "stalking" you.

It's only proper stalking when I get out the night vision goggles and take over a roof top opposite your flat and leave notes written in blood nailed to your door with chicken beaks. At least that's what they said last time.

Yes, and I'd thank you not to bring it up again, Mumph. I've only just managed to start sleeping with both eyes shut again now.
