I've got a pink slip so I will be out - but I doubt I'll be in the quiz long as I want to catch up with a couple of mates I haven't seen for weeks. I'll try and call by though to chip in with my one answer per year.

Nice to see so many familiar faces again ~ Foth, Mr & Mrs Flyingchair, Halo, Jesswill (and bewildered friend), xpat-Aussie, Beebs, and even special guest appearances by Load Toad (who vanished on schedule within an hour) and Beer Boy.
And before anyone starts bleating, no, not everyone bothered participating in the quiz so we were well within the 6-per-team limit.

And the BB regulars would hereby like to apologise to Mr Toad who was indeed in accordance with Matthew in his answer of Thomas Newcomen, but he was outvoted.
But it has to be said that the question of "who invented the steam engine" is horribly difficult to answwr - Newcomen's work was based (as again LT mentioned) on that of some earlier Frenchmen... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Newcomen

my contribution was running interference on the team trying to scam answers from us. Beer Boy nearly fell pray to them.
