no, I do have the intention to come back, eventually, but I'm now being told I can't travel on a one way ticket

see cx is 3k return, cebu pacific is 1k, also return. As this is my 3rd or 4th roundtrip in the last month or so I want to try the latter. however, I have a problem with fixed date tickets.

anyone have experience ?

Can't you check with Cebu pacific if they will allow you to re-book the return date if you pay a penalty (this is usually the difference between the price you paid and the current price of the re-booked ticket)?

to be, or not to be, what was the question?

or just miss your flight because of "traffic congestion" - see Cebu Pacific website:

http://www.cebupacificair.com/help/
FAQ:
"What happens if I don't show up for my scheduled flight and was unable to advise the reservations office?

You will be charged non-usage fees. You may also take a later flight but you will be accommodated based on seat availability."

so if I buy a return ticket for April 15, 2014, I'm safe for a while? Probably get it nearly for free

Another option is to book a one-way award ticket back on CX - cost 15,000 AsiaMiles I think. There is no date change fee for award tickets up to the one-year validity, so you can keep moving the date to be 14 days from when you leave HK.

Mrs smog and I never pay more than HK$1650+tax for roundtrip on CX to MNL - min 2 days, max 14. HK$500 to rebook the return flight if you need to change it, although we tend to have fairly fixed plans.

No air ticket is ever valid for more than 12 months.

yes, I know, just trying

1650+tax is a good price, miles as well ? I got 2500+tax for a 2-7days ticket with 500 rebooking fee to Cebu, compared to 1053roundtrip superfixed (and better hours for me as well) with cebupacific

might not have all the food and entertainment, but from 1 till 3.30 AM I think I can handle ...

$1650+tax is to Manila, not Cebu - sorry, it wasn't clear where you wanted to go. Cebu is more expensive (specifically, HK$2550+tax in M class)

Yes that includes miles - it books in L class. Available directly off CX's website.

yes cebu pacific allows to change dates, and unless you want to change to a very busy date, they wont charge you a penny for it. the wife and several friends have used cebu pacific for many times this year and they freaking can never make up their mind about trvel datesd etc, yet they get away with no extra charges

if you bought the ticket under special promotional rates then the normal re-booking policies don't apply for Cebu Pac.

CX won't generally let you on a plane to anywhere that you don't have a long term visa / right to remain; if the immigration rules of where you are going say that you need a return or onward ticket then CX insists on seeing it. The reason being that if immigration there turns you round then CX has to bring you back at their own expense.

It does seem a bit like overkill though - I don't immediately recall immigration anywhere (except Russia) ever asking me for my onward/return ticket, but I guess it might be different for non-gweilos.

i hate to say this, but they only do it in two cases (and you can trust me on this) :-

1\ you are from such a sad sh!thole of a country that even russia seem such a facking haven in comparison
2\ you look and act like a absolute, ultimate, and utter tw*t

or both.

YipYap, there's no way to get on a flight to the phillies with a one way ticket, unless you have a residence permit, full stop.
I tried my best, very friendly et all, and at the end had to buy a ticket out.
Actually I had the same to HK once, but that was a long time ago and I could possibly talk myself out of it, however to the phillies the airline is facing a fine of 50k pesos if you have no ticket out. And yes, immigration asked to see the ticket.

the fact the ticket is for 6 months from now was no issue. beats me, like the phillies always do, every day again.
