A previous co-worker from my days in Seoul is coming to visit HK in a few weeks and asked if I knew of any romantic restos where he can take his Japanese ladyfriend. Would anyone like to offer their romantic resto recommendations?

The Italian joint at the Wynn in Macau is really nice. The water fountain outside synchronized with the music is a very nice touch. That's if they plan to go to Macao that is.

In HK.. umm..

Felix, Totts, Isola, Aqua are a few of the usual suspects.

It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than open ones mouth and remove all doubt.

Any guidance on cuisine or price?

Without regard to price I would go for:

Panevino (Italian "trattoria" in the mid-levels - informal, rustic, but a bit pricey)
Kaetsu (Japanese at the Hyatt, but I may be biased because of its cucumber associations)
Le Tire Bouchon (for pretty good French and an interesting wine list)

I'd agree with TinyBore on Scala as well - I've only used it for lunch, but if formal, discreet Italian in a traditional setting is your thing then it's good, and excellent service.

So far the recommendations are great. Thanks for the replies. Any others are welcome. I will be sure to pass these on to my friend so he can make arrangements before he arrives.
