North Koreans talk about "eventual reunification" this week. These things can happen all of the sudden like it did with Berlin Wall. Interesting if the border would suddenly open from the North. Would the South close it?

I don't mind what they are doing.

I don't see it happening anytime soon, unless a major upset/catastrophe happens in the North.
The Kims like their power unlimited and unchallenged, and as long as other countries will trade cash for nuclear concessions, he's got it made...

I suspect he's still got enough kidnapped South Koreans and Japanese to play with...

as long as kim jong il and his equally inept son, menta lee ill, are running the country, this will never happen

the cultures are WAY too different for it to be smooth thats for sure.

At my lemonade stand I used to give the first glass away free and charge five dollars for the second glass. The refill contained the antidote.

North Korean defectors, already wiser in the ways of the world than 99.99% of their fellow countrymen, go into complete culture shock when they arrive in the South.

Most East Germans knew quite well what was on the other side of the wall pre-1990, the North Koreans however would have life shattering adjustments to make if reunification ever came about...

Old story about the defectors here:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/2006411.stm

Seems that it's not that far from your average Mainland countryside pumpkin dropping to Hong Kong... but imagine there was 3 million of them coming at the same time - I guess quite realistic scenario for Seoul, given that it's right across the border and there's 23 million people in the North.

Then that's nothing, they are all coming here already, just go to Ocean Park/Disneyland this week to see the damage.

Clarification: 1.3 b are coming but not at the same time, they come in tour buses gradually over the decades, luckily they go back too.

Chinese bitter puppy? Where...?
