lol... not a done deal yet mate. Howard has a knack of pulling a rabbit out of the old hat so to speak... the Labor flunkies will f**k it up pretty badly (they've already started) so old Lemon lips Rudd will have to be flawless.
I'm no great fan of Howard, though I fear for the country should Labor get in. The unions have basically "sold the farm" to pay for their 1.4 billion dollar war chest which they've been spending on political advertising for the past 12 months, so the electorate has been sufficiently brainwashed. Having sold the majority of their assets, they'll get a free run if Labor get back in power, sending the country back 20 years.

Rudd has had the longest honeymoon period of any new leader in the history of politics... the media by and large despise Howard (for good reason on some counts) but it won't take too much work to expose the lack of talent on the Labor front bench (one was already sacked last week!)

We've enjoyed the greatest period of prosperity in the history of the country over the last 10 years or so... not all attributable to the Liberal party, but a lot of it is. Costello is the greatest treasurer we've ever had. God help us if those union ratbags get in!

FYI: In case you didn't know, the Labor party is owned and operated by the unions in Australia. The CFMEU would be the biggest player. The majority of the pre-selected members have come up through the union movement, and have been quite militant in the past.

There is power in a union. For any harm you think a union ever did just remember how many hours you have to work, the health and safety at work, the pension, the holidays, the medical; that was unions matey. Never disrespect why you have the power to question. Might not mean much to you - but my grandfather - thick and uneducated, fought for the right of anyone he knew to have education, insurance and pension. And you can do what you do now - cos they did.

You used to speak the truth.

Not saying Unions are a bad thing... but Unions that effectively run the country? That is a bad thing. I've dealt with them for years.

xpat your young......you possibly weren’t born when someone else proclaimed themselves to be the best treasurer ever ....a young brash john howard in the Frazer era 1976
as for the liberal spiel about the unions well true that the labor party was founded in 1891 with a strong union backing it hasn’t been run by unions for a long long time unlike the liberal party which is owned by a few wealthy people in oz and has always unashamedly had no social agenda and aggressively supported big business and selling off the farm
as for the unions and their advertising that’s the freedom of a democracy that a private group can take on the government propaganda and they have been proven correct in the last fortnight when it was announced that 25000 awa's were found to be unfair and needed to be reworded by the empoyers..and a back down by joe hockey.....and further changes to the howard wording
as for the lack of talent this is the case for any opposition coming into office after many years out in the opposition benches.... do remember in 1996 a bunch of flunkies also came into office after 13 years in the wilderness !!!

Costello isn't saying he's the best treasurer... I am. He is though, there can be no doubt about that.
Tha Labor party is, has always, and will be for the forseeable future, owned by the unions... to suggest otherwise is complete b*****ks!
You watch Howard change the workplace laws to show "he's listening" to the electorate.
I'm not aspousing liberal party docterine regarding the Labor/unions relationship, simply stating facts.

Not quite... sending it back 20 years will effectively make it 1967

(No free love though )

As long as they don't send it back any further - will end up with all those bloody criminals being sent back to the UK and we wouldn't want that would we.

amazing john has been in power 11 years and during that time there have been numerous calls for reconciliation and the saying of sorry to past injustices to the indigenous of oz ...john has been very entrenched in his conservative ways and always said no no no ....until.....3 days ago he says he will have the recognition of the indigenous as the original owners inhabitants of the country written into the oz constitution...hmmmm so little so late another election porky....even his previous prime minister Malcolm Frazer has said that howard is an embarrassment to the reconciliation process....all the good work since 1967 has gone sour in the past 11 years .... quote from malcom frazer

Frazer has lost the plot in the last few years... JH has actually done something (very late I know) by mobilising the army (including reservists) and getting the territory govt on board by getting people where it's needed and making a difference... mainly in the area of health and education.
He actually said that he's sorry for any injustice done, but won't apologise for something that happened several generations ago, and I agree with him.

getting people into health and education...? you are surely taking the p**s. There are more unfilled positions in these sectors than all others combined. The pay is still too low for any reasonable person to consider as a viable job option. I see more and more contracting firms policing our airprts as customs officers than ever before, mainly due to the enormous, unwarranted fear campaign, generated after Bali and 911. Complete waste of money. They are more worried about taking my kimchi chocolates off me than looking for explosives. Dickheads

Howard is a clown who cant see whats happening around him because his head is stuck so far up george w bush's arse.

lol... health is a state issue. See you local Labor member about that. Same with the ports... the economy would be even stronger if the state run ports and infrastructure was able to meet the demands placed on it.
Not sure about customs... but from what I do know, they have some fairly sophistocated equipment in place around the joint for the c/t work... the quarrantine guys are always hard to get past... but for good reason. Take the equine flu that's causing the punters to go stir crazy right now :)

The health issue I was referring to, is aboriginal health and education. They're actually getting things one up north... something which no government to date has ever done, liberal and labor alike.

I always find it amazing how so many people here seem to have such a strong social concience, yet they are living in perhaps one of the greatest capatilist cities on earth!
Did you all come here for the communism?

Personally, I cam here for the folding stuff $$$

johnny is a coward...why he didn’t send in the troop(er)s to Queensland and Western Australia???? simple there was an election coming so he didn’t want to take on two states which are the keys to the election...
Western Australia wrote a report in 2005 on problems in the communities and the howard government failed to do anything....as is so typical with howard he has no social agenda

hmmm when the leader of a country can’t apologize for the past injustices then he is no leader

I don't see why an apology is required, nor do the vast majority of Australians. What exactly would an apology mean? compensation? changing history?... sweet f**k all is what it would mean (except perhaps for the compensation part...)

What exactly have the state governments done in their own neck of the woods to cope with the aboriginal health crisis? (SFA is what)

I do agree though, that the lack of social policy is a massive shortcoming of the liberal party... why everyone keeps banging on about John Howard is beyond me. He's one man, not the government... leader yes, but still just one man.

Come on x-A - there isn't any communism and hasn't been ever well apart from the Paris Commune or a little pre Spanish Civil war Spain.
