I'm contemplating a week long ski trip early next year, and am looking at Korea or Japan (most likely Niseko in Hokkaido) as a destination.
Has anyone been skiing in either country? If so, where did you go and what were they like? If you've been skiing in both, which is the better of the two countries for skiing in your opinion?

I can't tell you much except that I know the powder in Niseko has a pretty good reputation. I spoke to a German fellow who found it a bit dull - however, he told me that his parents first taught him to ski as soon as he could walk and Germany, Austria and Switzerland was where he did the majority of his skiing.
Some additional positives, there are many Australians in and around Niseko, and Sapporo has a pretty good nightlife.

Yes I've heard all of those things about Niseko. The place looks great and they get 12-14m of powder every year, so the chances of rocking up to a grazing paddock are pretty slim.
I did a bit of late night research into the Korean resorts last night, and I've got to say that they look quite ordinary, so I'll be concentrating my efforts on Japan now.

I have considered China, but there doesn't seem to be much info out there and the few resorts that I seen info on make Korea look outstanding. I suspect they're fine for weekend doses but I'm looking for a place that'll keep me happy for 5-7 days. If you know of anywhere in China that genuinely fits that bill then by all means let me know, because my putonghua is a hell of a lot better than my Japanese.
Once I've priced up a suitable Japanese resort, I'll compare that with the cost of going to Whistler (Oasis have some offers to Vancouver at the moment). If there isn't much difference in price then I'll chose the latter. Travel time may put the kybosh on that idea though.

I got a job lined up in Daqing for December or January - should be a 3-4 day run in, so I plan to visit Yabuli on the way back for a few days; I know, it's damn damn cold up there, but isn't that the point?!

Davos in Zurich was the best skiing experience I've ever had... Here in Asia, the closest you can get is Japan.
Note that there are no trees, people can ski anywhere without following a trail

Hey, I was searching this too. don't really trust the accommodation in China plus is long traffic to reach; can't understand the korean web page too; do you know how much does it cost for the one in Japan, let say 4 or 5 days ??
