great place to visit for sailing round the islands and diving and swimming fishing etc etc BUT.........................not during the wet season when its the hottest and wettest time of the year plus its cyclone season .........best to visit there in the dry which is june july aug sept as a northern ozzie thats my local advice as la nina is expected to continue into 2008 the prediction for more cyclones this wet season is quite strong.....off shoot is whilst one may be north of the whitsundays you get a flow on effect in the weather

Agreed. I went to Hamilton island for my honeymoon. Stayed at a part called the Beach Club... no kids allowed, private pool etc... luxurious, and gorgeous! Spent plenty of time sailing, snorkelling, eating and drinking. Tha about sums it up... one of my best holidays yet! Was mid November, and the weather was spetacular.

He didn't specify which wife.

Paps, there are hardly any flights left to that side of Aus for the before and after weekends of CNY- better book something up and cancel later, just so you have a choice. I have had to go into the week before even, to get on a decent flight.

Fly to Makay from Brissie, and either swim, or get a boat... even perhaps a small charter plane (would be my pick, a Cessna 182 on floats).

I went to perth a couple of CNYs ago, and found it amazing, not ready to go back yet and VERY windy. I'm heading for Sunshine Coast.
