I want to pick up learning Ilocano, but dont seem to find the right book/course for self study, and was wondering maybe some of the guys married to filipina already started this.
if you have any experience or good suggestions on books, courses etc. pls let me know.

Ilocano language exchange can be easily arranged in the Lockhart Road area.

I've been thinking about this, but Mrs smog and I have come to the conclusion that if I were going to learn a Filipino language it makes much more sense to learn Tagalog than Kapampangan (her local language). All Filipinos can speak Tagalog, but only about 5% can speak Kapampangan, and not much over 10% speak Ilokano. and it is much easier to find books and other teaching material for Tagalog.

I think there is a Pimsleur Tagalog mp3 series. You can probably download it for free via bittorrent.

I'd have to agree that it's more useful to learn Tagalog - my kids speak it pretty well, I'm useless (except for the usual choice phrases) - and because of this, my Mac got broken!
to be, or not to be, what was the question?

AG , reasons: family, and property in the philippines (just as i learned Cantonese in HK....or well...ok enough to get around with at least)

Don't think speaking your wife's language will help with understanding her - it'll just mean arguments in two.
