I'm tempted to try this Smog - but don't want to waste police time. Meantime, Wiki'd it - and it is quite interesting to know - esp if you are traveling to countries whereby it might not work unless you have a sim card in or have credit on the sim card...
One to remember!
to be, or not to be, what was the question?

How do you know that they had no sense of urgency? If she had already stated what the crime was and where it was taking place then the police could already have been dispatched while they were getting the other details...
The only first-ish hand knowledge I have of emergency calls here both had the police (and in the second case also a paramedic) on the scene with 5-6 minutes, which ain't bad.

Indeed - but only on a GSM phone remember. It doesn't work on fixed lines except in countries where 112 is the emergency number anyway (European countries mainly).

If I remember correctly the police have an arrival time standard to a call of 8 minutes or less. We have had to call them on a couple of occasions and I have never waited more than five minutes for the motorcyclist to arrive, closely followed when necessary by a Mercedes Van with a full compliment. Some people like to complain because they are from the west genetically programmed to do so, but we do actually have one of the best police forces in the world in Hong Kong.

And they look very camp in those nice tight uniforms. Though now the annual fitness test has been scrapped I reckon they'll start to look more and more like those funny fat Thai policemen.

Honestly - I see plenty of coppers wandering around who have to walk through doors sideways as it is. You have to wonder how some of them passed the fitness test in the first place.

No wonder you have to rent your friends.

Arriving early enough doesn't mean they can do a beautiful job afterwards. We DO actually have one of the most s**tty police forces in the world on Jungle Island that often cannot find their way to the scene. You would think all the spare time they have doing fook all on this peaceful island could be useful for them to at least study the freaking map of where they work.

In a conversation with a mate in blue, I was informed that the local plod has recently formed a new and improved task force, specifically to stamp down on the spiked drink problem. So expect more raids and faster response in the foreseeable future.
I happen to know the officer in charge of this new squad, and can put you in touch with him if needed. (except for the next 6 days, as I'll be out of town...)

How are they going to do that - search all hookers or suspected hookers and bar staff (and suspected bar staff) for date rape drugs?
Riiiggghht.
First question to Plod mate:
- How many people suspected of being drugged against their will have tested positive for date rape drugs in HK in the last year?
Average by Intention.
