How long have people had to wait to get their child a place in an ESF school? Anyone home schooling cause they can't get a placement? Holding a place for my child for 6 months before I even get to Hong Kong will cost me a small fortune.
Hmmmm Now is it me or the wife that wrote this message?
Gotta keep you guessing.

Though it seems like more and more expats coming or/and the expats here are all getting to the age of becoming parents. International Schools tend to have rather long waiting list.

>muss, If your company is sending you to work in HK then the HR dept should be helping you out on this.
You used to speak the truth. But now you're clever.

but HR can't help get them a place in a school that has no availability - unless they are the likes of Goldman Sachs who have bought up a load of corporate debentures over the past 18 months.
Actually I have never heard of anyone buying and paying for a place in advance - having said that xmas is often the best time to arrive in HK for school places as lots of families leave at this time.

Yup agreed - but a HR dept should be offering advice on options for education...oh I forgot the golden rule - all HR depts are full of w***ers.

muss12 - if it helps pm me with contact info and i can get my wife to give you a call (agree with LT's comment above the generally HR depts have no experience in this area). We have 3 kids in the local system (inc 2 in ESF) and the wife works at one of the international schools here.

This position is first overseas posting for this company. They are not aware of all the requirements yet.

Why don't you try some local schools. You could contact the Dept. of Education
