Hello on 11.1 I'm coming to town to spend a few days before travelling around and finding myself a nice place to settle for a few months to learn Mandarin (sorry, Cantonese is my second choice). I'm wondering if there are any meet-ups amongst people from this group, or something social like that? It would be nice to get your perspectives on living in such an interesting culture. I'm living in Prague (from US via Holland) and have plenty of experiences myself "-) so please do let me know if you'll be getting together between 11-15 January. Thank you! Howe

Why on Earth are you coming to Hong Kong to learn Mandarin? That is like going to Prague to learn French!

If you want to live somewhere with the primary purpose of learning Mandarin then go to Beijing or Taipei.

'..interesting culture..'

That's a way of describing places like Zibo and Linyi I suppose. I hadn't thought of that myself.

Agree with smog - if learning Mandarin all proper like is your aim then they are the best two places to do it. Of course if you then go to Beijing and speak with a Taipei accent you'll have some interesting discussions too.

Regarding social - we regularly meet for lunches, nights out, quiz nights, BBQs, shagging, dinners, posh book signing events, massages, drink & drug binges and singing folk songs about lost fishing trawlers and stuff* best thing is to keep an eye on the site for updates.

*this is a lie we don't do folk singing.

You used to speak the truth.
But now you're clever.
