Planning 2-3 nights at either while down in KL to visit mum and can't decide between:

Japamala looks awesome, very laid-back, rates very reasonable too, stunning views etc etc (check out the Mandi Mandi resto on the website!!).

Then again, I really really really want to go to Langkawi to do the Skywalk on Mt Cincang:

Which destination would you opt for, and why?

I've been to Tioman but not to Lankawai. I enjoyed Tioman; clean and quiet. I suspect Lankawi is more commercial

I've been to Langkawi a couple of times, but never done the Skywalk... that's about the only lure for me there. Tioman just looks like heaven.

I'd choose the second one - for the wow factor.

I mean talk about ruining a beautiful nature spot... That bridge contraption is a bit of a monstrosity to say the least !

You'll LOVE this view of the cable car going up there, then:

And I thought Langkawi was a lovely beach resort with turquoise water and white sandy stretches of beaches

It is, in places ~ pretty much like any other beach resort-type place in Asia. Some good stuff, some crap stuff. You pick & choose.

I would choose to go to some place new if you have already been to Langkawi before

But I've never done the Skywalk before. And there's sea-kayaking excursions through limestone rock formations etc to see the eagles and so on.

Tioman!! Langkawi is just a quieter Phuket.

Hmmn. But I will be having to keep three children (two which I grew and one who insists he can't "lie around on a beach all day reading cos I'll get bored") entertained.

I should just leave 'em all at home and go by myself to some exclusive spa to be pampered and 'ssagied. You realise they will appreciate none of all this angst-ing and fretting and making sure I choose the right place so that THEY will like it.
