The best lunches we do seem to be ones in drinking places you can eat at rather than eating places you can drink at. I think we should look for the former. What's that Belgian place like that's opened - was speaking to a mate who had taken up the challenge to drink 12 Belgian beers or something and he'd lost his faculties by 6.....pm or pints - I dunno which.

I agree with the drinking place idea as it's usually more spacious and we don't get thrown out.
Is the Belgian place you're referring to that the place called "Frites" in Central? I think went past that yesterday and it looked good (in a Belgian kind of way)

Jess> I can be there if it's in Central ~ it's a production deadline day and we are up against a wall cos the printers shut over CNY and we need to close the issue early, so I can't wander too far (or long!) from the office.
I'd like to say Mr B will also be at the lunch, but I think he's out of plastic spoons for the moment.

Yes you have Bwitney dear, but you didn't register it at the time. You did invite me to be your facebook friend though, for some reason.

OK Central seems to be the best for a few people (and I like it) so central it is.
Bulldog? Pelican? Frites? Other?
I'm of to KK in a few hours so I may not look at this thread for a few days, I will update when I'm next online. In the meantime, feel free to go off track as long as people turn up for lunch!

Dublin Jack (LKF) is another option ~ got nice big sofa thingies out on the balcony. The Paddy's Melt is ace. And I can smoke.

Frites; cheers Nas - I wouldn't mind giving that a try but I'm not fussed whatever is chosen.*

I've been to Frites - it's a (quite good, albeit not cheap) restaurant with a bar down one wall, not a bar. Not really what we need for this. And it's non-smoking.
I agree that a proper bar (Bulldog's, Delaney's, Dublin Jack, Pickled Pelican (assuming the food is OK - never tried), HK Brewhouse even) would be better. We had a do at The Globe once which worked quite well I seem to remember, but not if we have more than about 8 people.

Pickled Pelican is okay, but not really designed for big groups ~ the chairs are simply too large and you end up miles away from people at the other end of the table. Plus the food's a bit average.

You'd get chicken parmos at The Globe. And pies, and Belgian beers, and English Ales*. That would get my vote if I was going.
*Air flown Cornish cask ale right now too.

You can smoke in Frites if you stand by the open window --given its warm enough to keep the window wide open--
Can you and Lola skip the smoking part for once? I would indeed trade smoking for a good meal and drink at Frites.

I suspect that would definitely be an afternoon off then if that's where we end up.
And $70 +10% for less than a pint of Hoegaarden at Frites is perhaps rather more than some people would prefer to pay... Their cheapest Main Course (if you don't take the fixed set lunch) is a $150 burger.

Smoking issue aside, I trust Foth on this one, plus the "not cheap" aspect is alarming.
