We're moving to HK in May, and by that time I'll be 25 weeks pregnant. I will appreciate any info on doctors/gynaecologists, healthcare issues and any recommendations you can make regarding being pregnant in HK.

There is a specialist HK baby/parenting forum over at http://www.geobaby.com which I hope the powers that be here won't mind me pointing you at...

Congrat! Try...
1/ Matilda Hospital, a hospital..
2/ The Body Group, for new born baby, the shape of their head.. breathing problem... stop crying.
3/ Parent Journal, a magazine..
4/ Diet, you need more minerals.. high protein.. you would become more tired.

Kairo, you should have a look at the following website for Tsan Yuk Hospital which is specialized in antenatal and postnatal care....I think it's government and private based:

http://www.ha.org.hk/hesd/nsapi/?MIval=ha_view_content&c_id=100133
http://www.ha.org.hk/hesd/nsapi/?MIval=ha_view_content&c_id=100133#Services

Me and the missus used their services twice - 2nd time we also had the 3D color scan done - still trying to read that one tho!

to be, or not to be, what was the question?

St. Paul's Hospital is a good one too. And I think it's not as expensive as Matilda. But most of the expats like to use Matilda.

DFC - Matilda is good but yes, veeeeeeeeeeeeeery $$$$$$$$$$ - I guess you're also paying for the view - of the scenery from the window!

to be, or not to be, what was the question?

I can recommend an ob/gyn to you, but it really depends on whether you have insurance or not as to the kind of advice we can give you following that. Not all expats go private- some choose to use their tax dollars to their advantage. pm me if you want to talk further.

I'm just curious to know if there is anyone who would recommend that I don't deliver the baby in HK but in my home country (knowing the doctors, system etc)? Will appreciate any advice, especially from any South Africans who know the health services of both countries.

Exactly...
Have a look at the Steamers Inn (Sai Kung) forum and see what happens if we don't have this policy

.
The problem with instant gratification is that it takes too bloody long...

I'm not from SA, but I don't understand why you would want to go home. You will be home for 4 months with your travel restrictions either side, whats the point? HK system is very good, either way. You cannot, however, deliver at home by law in Hk ( unless its an accident!) , and you will not be offered a waterbirth or any other form of 'niceness' if you go into the public system.

That's what we thought as well, just trying out all options. Will make contact with you via pm as soon as I'm allowed.
