Hong Kong actress Lydia Shum - 'Fei-Fei' - has died at the age of 60 in Queen Mary hospital following a long battle with cancer. Ms Shum had been undergoing medical treatment since being diagnosed with the disease more than a year ago. The former child-actor made her film debut in 1960, and quickly established herself as a leading performer in both comedy and drama roles. In recent years, she had starred in the English-language TV show, 'Living With Lydia', in Singapore.

My kids will be sad. They love "Life with Lydia", which would have them rolling around in laughter while I sat there wanting to gouge my eyes out with a spoon cos it was so crap.

The impression I have on her is she is loud and bossy. Still it is sad to see another actress that you kind of grow up with passed away.

R.I.P.

I liked the 80s films with her, Uncle Bill and Loletta Lee

I felt sad as well. Despite her hardest effort, she never able to fulfill her last wishes of seeing her daughter releases her first album nor watching her walking down the aisle...

What is it with this "battled bravely" stuff?

If someone offers me the choice between a year in a hospital drugged up, connected to tubes and all that s**t, or 6 months touring the world, drinking vintage champagne and generally having a good time (with a nice big dose of morphine to finish it all off) then I know which I'm taking.

ha ha ha... battled bravely or bravely battling, depending on which rag you read, is the press' phrase tagged to every fooker who has cancer, or has been through an op/therapy caused by cancer....

it's not like "we" decide to fookin' give up one day out of apathy... it's a b*****ks statement... and patronises everyone to be touched by the big C

smog,

John Diamond (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Diamond_) wrote a book 'Because Cowards Get Cancer Too' an 'offbeat' look at his cancer - his point being there was nothing brave about what he was having to go through. He was scathing in his book 'Snake Oil....' about alternative medicines and such.

I think we've exaggerated the fact in newspapers no one is ever described as 'blartin' s**t scared and afraid to die of...'

which leads me to thinking I might have a chance with Nigella.... she's used to dealing with us "bravely battling" types....

I don't know with Nigella. Of course I wanna bend her over the kitchen worktop and give her one from behind, but on the other hand when she opens that gob of hers and sprout all those non-sensical tv-chef bollox soundbites, I so desperately want to give her a shoeing.

What to do?
