Quote" The United States will take its first shot at an out-of-control spy satellite on Thursday, trying to knock it into the sea before it crashes to Earth, possibly causing damage, CNN news reported Monday."

they have seas in the upper atmosphere?

Actually, while arguably a little clumsy, the sentence is correct. They will [try to knock it into the sea] before [it crashes to Earth]. It is not about where the sea is but when they will do it. It is correct.

That's okay - I can see wy you thought that. What they are saying is that before it crashes into the earth of its own accord they will deibererately knock it into the sea. It is clearer when you add the extra bits.

GDV is 100% correct. It's not an easy error to spot. There is a difference between 'Earth' and 'earth' as he rightly points out.

i think you're right KT - should've been 'earth' not 'Earth' - but so what, nobody cares.

I think both works. Earth is the name of the planet - as in coming back to its origin. Or without the capital to imply hitting the ground.

I reckon they'll 'miss' this thing 'accidentally' and it'll prolly smash into Iran - - - and the missle will 'accidentally' land somewhere in Iran too - - - similar to the 'accidental' smart bombing of the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade, in 1999

to be, or not to be, what was the question?

And actually they did not accidentally hit the building. They wanted that building but their maps were out of date and they thought is was something else.

Nope, but the missile (and whatever may be inside its warhead) may do something - mind you, depending on where each lands, it could to lots (perhaps one lands on the presidents home and one on his office)...

FC - that's why I state 'accidentally' - strange that is was a secure comms room the missile hit (spot-on) though...

KT - don't know, but those in the UK have been told they'll get a good view of it zotting thru the sky 'before' it's 'shot-down'...

Puyi - I'm sure it can be arranged (you'll need to give George a call pretty quickly tho)...
