~dark side~ ‘Running for the Mouse Pads’ - The Tradition Continues
~dark side~ continued its massive marketing onslaught this week with the arrival of a container ship carrying the much anticipated 2008 version of the ~dark side~ Calendar Mouse Pad to be distributed at the ‘Running for the Mouse Pads’.
The shipment had been delayed due to winter storm conditions on the mainland and the Chinese New Year Holiday.
Ship’s captain Knut Alfredssen, when asked about the delay, commented, “we are just happy to be here” as he presented the first 2008 ~dark side~ Mouse Pad to Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang at a Harbour ceremony.
Also in attendance to mark the arrival of the mouse pads were a number of major local and international celebrities and dignitaries (Edison Chen did not attend due to other ‘commitments’).
There were unconfirmed reports of men unloading dozens of large boxes in the Central business district of Hong Kong early this morning. An anonymous source at ~dark side~ Corporation, revealed to reporters that “them there boxes are full of tens of thousands of mouse pads and they will be handed out to all the big, important businessmen on the street.”
The Hong Kong Police riot control unit set up barricades throughout Central anticipating the large, unruly crowds of crazed bankers and lawyers who have in past years injured each other in the annual ‘Running for the Mouse Pads.’
Police Commissioner Dimmy Sum warned, “this is the biggest single yearly event in Hong Kong and we will have the mace and tear gas ready to deal with anyone who tries to jump the queue.”
~dark side~ Managing Director aka ‘The Mouse Pad King’ Paul Luciw indicated that he did not expect the chaos of previous years, “we are not disclosing actual distribution points in advance but rest assured, we we have enough mouse pads so that no underprivileged banker, lawyer, doctor, accountant, teacher, CEO, CFO, CPA, tinker, tailor, soldier or sailor is left behind in 2008.”
An executive with a major auction house claimed, “we recently sold one of the 2006 ~dark side~ Mouse Pads for over $100,000 so the latest version will not doubt be highly sought after. The secrecy regarding distribution is likely aimed at preventing triad societies from using strong arm tactics to corner this high lucrative market and hoarding these items for future profit.”
