Hello all,
I'm moving to HK soon from US. (New York). Here are the questions I have:
My company will pay for all moving expenses.. So with that:
Does it make sense to bring your own furniture to HK from US? (Is it cheaper in US or HK?) If I dump quick sell my stuff here, will I wind up spending much more in HK to buy it?
What about other prices? Basically, should I buy everything I need here in US and ship it (FREE) to HK or buy locally? The question goes for :
TVs , refrigirators, appliances etc.. What to bring to HK and what to buy locally?
Regards,
D mitry.

Buy it here - for a start US stuff may not have correct plugs / power / TV system compatibility etc.

110V only?
It's hard hitting and across two legs. No, it's not Craig Bellamy's golf club, it's the champions league semi-finals

Get your company to pay for the shipment, but then sell your stuff, pocket the money and buy all your stuff out here.
Look at this bovver go!

American appliances are normally 110v only, and about 6 times the size of local ones. A standard US double door fridge with icemaker is the same size as an average HK kitchen...
AV appliances (TV, DVD) etc are cheaper here, and almost always multi-region
You laugh because I'm different... I laugh cause I just farted...

And - if you are moving to HK to take up an overseas posting for the company you work for they should include a payment in the contract so you can purchase electrical goods etc.
