Nuisance call has police in stitches

A NEW Zealand woman called the country?s emergency services because she needed help to thread a needle.

The woman called police in the central North Island city of Rotorua as she rushed to get ready for a garden party yesterday, The New Zealand Herald reported.

Police did not respond to the call as none of the local officers had the required skills.

The Herald said the country’s emergency line had to deal with thousands of hoax or nuisance calls each year, including:

- a Christchurch bride who needed help to remove an oil stain from her wedding dress

- a man who rang to report hedgehogs fighting on his front lawn

- and a man who was scared of a cow at his letterbox.
