Smog, so now I see you have a blog as you fell that forums don't give you the total freedom you feel you need.
I have just look at a number of your posts (and I replied). From what I see, there is nothing within your posts there that would not happily be hosted here, but the proof is in some of the replies.
Whats the point of having a blog that has posts that just contain swear words. It does nothing for the blog and just makes a waste of the whole thing.
Just my opinion.

Well there is a link in one of my comments to a site hosting the Edison Chen pictures, which was the straw that broke this camel's back as it were.
And the swearing was just Juno being Juno and testing me out. I think that reflects on Juno as much as on me - the principle of the blog is that I will not censor anything unless it is clearly illegal in Hong Kong, or is potentially seriously injurious to the well-being of someone.
Unlike this board I'm not interested in Google rankings/categorisation. In fact the blog is set to be invisible to search engines.
And yes I know that I haven't written much there - been a bit busy recently, but I hope to put more up there soon.

Well post, your comments here also, even a cut and paste would be good.
You have already posted things there I am sure people would like to know, but if like me people don't have time to go via lots of different sites each day.
So it would be nice if you still post here !!!
Also as I have repeatedly said, I need to keep a certain amount of control here so we don't get classed as an adult site.
If we do, I for one would not be able to view the site from work as they are blocked by our proxy servers, hence all I try to do is keep the swearing and adult links out. Its not really about Google/Search rankings its about company proxies that categorise sites and then block them.
I don't actually think that over the three odd years we have been running the site we have been to bad in cutting down peoples posts or setting to many rules.
Anyway, I am not going to go into the whole thing yet again.

I think this is the crux of the whole argument. What defines seriously injurious? By law, by moral, or Smog's (or Juno's) definition? I guess the answer is Smog. Much like the Luciw's approach of "it's my playground, I make the rules".

Indeed. And at some point that has to be the case with any site. It is not possible (legally or morally) totally to abrogate responsibility for a site you create and administer online. There's a question of degree. On a scale of "most censorious" to "totally without limits" I see some relevant sites being like this:
Darkside ................... Geo ........HKEx ...........................................Smogsblog ................ IceRed (RIP)
I find each of the three in the middle to be useful in their own way. IceRed was a complete waste of space, and Darkside is only useful for the free dinners on Mondays.

Personally, I think Icered was great for what it was (before it turned into a lawsuit magnet). It targeted a completely different demographic group than, say, here or darkside or Geo. A shame that Tim Lam couldn't maintain it.

And if number of visitors is your measure of success or value or something then fine. But I'll take quality over quantity any day.

Not really - it's totally subjective, but unless your site is a commercial one then any measure of "success" will be. Since HKEx isn't (as far as I know) a commercial site (yet?) then "success" is presumably related to something that makes SG. HKBloke etc feel good in some way.

Its not something that makes me "Feel good", its more fun. I enjoy running this forum, even though it does actually cost us money. But I think its been worthh it, meet some great friends, had some great laughs and drunk a lot of beer.
