AirAsia HKG-KUL [ New Topic]

Comments, observations and things to look out for, please!

Basically, on AirAsia, me and my 2 bubs can fly direct HK-KL return for the price of one on CX.

Is there pre-assigned seating or a mad scrum at the gate? And has anyone been through the LCC bit of Sepang Airport i.e. is it easy access to the train to KL Sentral?

From what my Malaysian connection told me, there are no marked seat and what ever you expect from a typical flight will be omitted (nuts, meal, beverage)

as for the rest, I have no idea

Would be interesting to see if anyone can actually find the flight that is offered for $99 one way.I spent a fruitless 10 minutes searching on a wide variety of dates.

It is a bus. You get on. You entertain and feed your self. You get off.

About bloody time. A friend of mine who lives in KL always came to Hong Kong via Macau - always flew Air Asia - never had a problem.

Since when are AirAsia flying to HK??? Thought the closest they came was Macau???

My KL mate who worked for them until last week never said owt about them coming here direct, so not sure where you got the news from.

Basically they are just another airline, check in is the same.

LCC in Sepang to main terminal is ok, just another train ride, then get the Ekspres from there to Sentral.

Full-page ad in today's SCMP. Big story in yesterday's SCMP. Flights available for booking on www.airasia.com

Beer Boy. The full page ad in the SCMP today no page 7 might beg to differ.

They always intended to come to Hong Kong, they just could not get a landing slot. I know Tony Fernandes (the CEO of Air Asia) through a friend who is CEO of one of his investments and I remember him teling me this last time I was in KL.

You can pay a premium to get in a separate group that gets to board first, but still no reserved seating. I'm really not sure how they deal with children in such an environment.

it's been announced for about 4 months now - starting April 2008, HKG to KUL direct (one week too late!)
they've also announced flights to Australia (Perth, Melbourne and Gold Coast I believe) from KL.

Flying over Macau adds 4 hours to your trip, plus 400$ - unless your flight is 300HKD return not worth the hassle.

It's hard hitting and across two legs. No, it's not Craig Bellamy's golf club, it's the champions league semi-finals

My mate in KL was their Inflight Catering Ops Director, and he never even mentioned this... always cited HKs landing prices too high as to why they never came here

Flight time is about 4 hours; on MAS or CX, it's about 3-3.5 hrs. And as I said in first post, 3 of us can fly for the price of one on CX, so I'd say the hassle is definitely worth it.

When I was in KL they had reserved seating as long as you went in person to their booking 'shop' in KL Sentral station.

maybe that's why he doesn't work there any more.
It's been in the "coming soon" section of their website since november. I think end of 2007 they announced flights starting in april 2008, turns out to be May this year.

Might be they're adding some new aprons, like behind the fire station, takes about half an hour to get there by bus

You get non assigned seating, probably a bus transfer to/from the plane, and buy-on-board food & drink (cack sarnies and cup noodles). The airline is fine though and the hosties are hot. At least on the Bangkok routes.

Guessing you may have a transfer from the low cost terminal if you wish to get into KL by train.

Coupla things, they have changed flight times on me in the past at just a few days notice, but were OK with me rebooking. Domestically in Malaysia, they have had major flight delays from time to time. If a flight goes technical, it may be difficult to get another plane, due to tight tunraround times and a fairly distributed network. There also may be longish lines at check in, as low cost carriers often save staff this way.

Guess it's similar to Jetstar?
Flew to Singapore at CNY, not much hassle for me but I really hated the idea of paying HK$30 for a teeny bottle of water on board. I didn't even bother to check the price for other food. If it was anything longer than 4 hrs I wouldn't bear to do it with young kids. The craft was as tiny as the bottle of water too.
