"......the demonstrations started off with monks proceeding peacefully from their monasteries, until they were beaten by plain-clothes police."
Is that so? Please provide a news source.
"Radio Free Asia’s Tibetan language service reported that it received a phone call from inside the Ganden Monastery from a witness who said monks were demonstrating on Wednesday. The service also reported fresh accounts of a protest Tuesday in which several hundred monks were witnessed marching near a police station. Although some witnesses said they heard gunshots, no serious injuries were reported. The blockades kept the monks far from the city centre where they had hoped to demonstrate."

"That kind of violence is evidently OK with you. It's amazing how amoral you are.
I don't need to go into the rape of Buddhist nuns, the torture of children, and other atrocities which have been a frequent feature of the 50-year Chinese occupation, because I have no doubt you are quite comfortable with those too."
I've never sought to defend the Tibetan invasion or what the Chinese Government has done in Tibet since then. I'm just wondering why some people are describing the current situation in Tibet as a 'peaceful demonstration' that's all.

And by doing so you hope to distract attention from the brutality of the Chinese forces, and paint the Chinese as the victims in the occupation of Tibet. It's an obscene standpoint to take. It's also very transparent and very you.

Jumping to unwarranted conclusions. It's an extremely biased standpoint to take. It is also very you.

Once again ESWN has a good collection of comment -link- (also scroll up for some more comment from another candidate for menwholooklikeoldlesbians)
There seems to be some shoddy journalism going on (whether through laziness or otherwise I don't know). Now that the journalists are out who knows what is really going on. link = Richard Spencer

More good stuff on ESWN...
As published by CNN vs what the photographer saw, for example:

Agreed, but that doesn't mean atrocities in Tibet are any lesser.
Look further down on ESWN and you'll find an examination of pictures which ask whether the monk filmed attacking a shop is in fact a Chinese saboteur. It's not unknown for authorities in many countries to 'seed' a crowd with their own operatives, to transform a peaceful protest into a riot in order to have the excuse to respond to it violently.
A New York Times story today suggests that Chinese police did nothing in central Lhasa (notwithstanding their beating of monks outside the city) until they had the footage of violence they required. Only then did the army move in.

Yes, that is priceless.
But see the news today: China's happy minorities facade is crumbling. About 30 monks shouted pro-Tibetan slogans and defended the Dalai Lama as journalists toured the Jokhang Temple on an official China-organized media tour.
