cathay or qantas, guess you would be looking at about 6-8k return
depending on when you want to go - try airasia, they'll fly from hong kong to KL from somewhere in May, say 1000HKD return per person, and they already have daily flights from KL to Gold Coast - which I expect is where you are heading anyway, costing about 1000MYR return.
That would be roughly 3500HKD per person, with a stop in KL
It's hard hitting and across two legs. No, it's not Craig Bellamy's golf club, it's the champions league semi-finals

Also have a look at Jetstar (qantas cattle-class). IIRC, I heard a rumour some time ago that they were going to start running HK flights.

The disadvantage of Air Asia is that it's a free-for-all on seating, which doesn't work well with kids I guess.

Randy and Smog - cheers for this info....For sure, I don't want on-board free for all WWF style seat grabbing whilst I've got a 2 and 5 yr old in tow. I guess the easier the better

Cathay has a fare of HK$4820+taxes (child @ 75% = $3615+tax) to BNE valid 23 Mar - 30 Jun, but must be booked by 31 March. Books into V class (so mileage-accruing), bookable on their website.

so is it really Brisbane you want to go, or is Gold Coast the final destination? Plus the dates of travel would be helpful I think Jetstar (and Tiger Air) make an extra stopover in Melbourne or Sydney - that's like 4hours further south than needed. with kids you'd get priority boarding, plus you can check in online for a small fee, seats blocked!

I've never had a ruck getting on to Air Asia flights. Yes, it's free seating but position yourself near to the gate door and the bus door and you should be fine. Other passengers should be happy to swap the odd seat too if they see you are with kids.

Anyway, kids are brilliant in free for all seating. Just send 'em racing up ahead to grab the good ones!

just got a very very good offer in
HKG-SYD/MEL-HKG, return trip (most likely without taxes) 2750HKD if stay less than one month, 3750 for up to 3 months and 5150 for a one year ticket Vietnam Airlines, free stopover in HCMC
Qantas 4780 + 450 to BNE, valid for 1 year, child fare 75% (on 'offer' until 31/03)

Thats farkin cheeeeeeeeap! You get a free bodyguard for the stopover?
I got some good offers. Roughly 13.5k to get me and the kiddies rtn to BNE on China Airways direct from Honkers. It's apparently fairly good and used by loads of peeps these days. This price is incl., insurance and fuel surcharge (read US screwing with the ME surcharge), but not scareport taxes.

Er, do you mean China Airlines? They don't fly direct from HK to BNE. Only CX and QF do. China Airlines would be via Taipei.

Smog - I think ur right. Even so, I don't mind via Taipei but direct is better...
Have you done this route before? Was the stopover long? The info on the website is 'sketchy'

The only time I went to Gold Coast I went on CX to SYD and then on QF up to Coolangatta because I was flying business and HKG-SYD is long haul business class and HKG-BNE is the regional one.

Hokey dokey - I've made up my mind to do the CX thing for peace of mind (and of course, the 30 day credit from the travel agent)

Change of mind: Decided on the China Airlines HK-TPE-BNE rtn ~~~~ Much cheaper
HKD5331 all incl. for adult and HKD4139 for each rug rat.
That's a saving of.....oooooh, about 70 beers (quite a good night out) by my calculation - well worth the stop-over in TPE.

But if you're going to have a non-direct flight what's wrong with VN? Much cheaper and a far better safety record than CI...

my travel agent doesn't 'deal' with VN, but does have a give me 30 day credit - so I'll take the best she can give me. I don't see any VN HK-BNE flights listed on their website
