Currently seriously considering a move from Sydney, Australia to HK. I have no idea on average rents or what I get for whatever that is. Also am thinking of Happy Valley, Mid Levels, Causway, or North Pt. Which of these is best for transport to HK CBD and good for singles lifestyle? Thanks

Dan, How much are you thinking of spending? In terms of a % of your salary or what are you happy to spend in $. The question you are asking is very much like saying 'How much does a car cost?' It depends which car and where. You could live in a flop house for a few grand or you could be paying 50 - 100K a month or more. Public transport is most excellent and a single person will have a load of fun whether they live in Mid Levels or Sai Kung.

Sounds grand. What kind of fun have you had on public transport, LT?

thanks for that info. Yes Load Toad you have a good point. Well I am prepared to pay around 30-40K a month, ideally 25. Re salary prepared to pay around 20-30% of salary since that is what I pay in Sydney
ps>had to chuckle about Juno's comment on public transport. Lol . At least you don't have trains with no drive where the passengers have to wait for a driver (Central Station Sydney, twice now!):-). HK sounds really cool by the way

factor in the size of the apartment and whether you need a big apartment or can work with a smaller / cheaper one.....as apartments are very small compared to oz its easy to make the mistake at first of going for a large apartment and then months down the track you realize you don’t need it nor need the great views or the high floors ...plus you are wasting your income which you could do more with......also factor in the tax here though slightly cheaper than oz is then matched by higher living costs....as for travelling times hk is a lot smaller and way more efficient in the transport so its easier to live 30 mins away from work and still have a good place to live

So puyi, how much should I expect to pay for a 1-bedroom apt with enought space for a separate bedroom, a mini study off a lounge and either mountain, sea or city views. Location - central , midlevels, Happy Valley , as close to HK CBD to minimise transport costs, close to the action:-) and work:-)
